FOUNDATION
CONDITIO HUMANA
“Aunty Agi what is a holiday like?” asked a 6 year
young little injured girl the person taking care of her, when she got an
invitation to the summer camp of the Foundation Conditio Humana. The mentally
handicapped children living in families are not much etter off as it is
practically impossible for these families to go to holiday resorts or
boardinghouses. To watch over children all twenty-four hours weighs heavily on
the nerves of the parents and although they make this sacrifice full of love in
their hearts they very much need to be released for some time
That is
where the Conditio Humana Association wants to help. With the joint effort of
the affected parents, young highschool volunteers. priests, teachers of
backward children and believing villagers it organizes for mentally deficient
children and handicapped children in the course of. the year small gatherings
in familylike conditions, so called "playing-houses" and in the
summer holiday-camps for recreation in Zemplén villages where parishes stand
empty due to lack of priests.
In order to sponsor this movement which grew out of
spontaneous joining of friends the Conditio Humana Foundation was created in
1989, and later in 1991 the Association of the same name. Its aim is to regain
for all our little injured brothers and sisters the human condition conditio
humana which is their due and to keep it for them, which means the
socialization and rehabilitation of the children. At the same time it also
develops the personality of the young volunteers through the creative,
responsible helping service. The Zemplén villages Bodrogolaszi, Girincs, Golop,
Megyaszó with their still unspoiled natural beauty and home to believers who
provide hospitality and strong traditions are ideal places for this activity.
The groups which return year after year become parts of the villagers lives
through innumerable acts full of joy by giving and accepting.
The restoration and outfitting of the derelict
buildings is performed by the common sacrifice of the Association members and
the sponsors of the Foundation. With the growing demand we plan to add further
buildings. Whereas during the periods which are left free by our groups we are
offering recreation possibilities on non profit basis to other institutions,
associations movements and foundations of similar character.
In 1994 we
organized 26 vacation groups, out of which 6 were conducted by the members of
our Association on the account of the Foundation. We cooperated with six
organizations of Budapest and two of the countryside concerning the organized
vacation of further nine handicapped groups. These are the following: mentally
handicapped, disabled, blind children and those of accumulatedly injured, large
families, foster parents, religious groups of parish, family groups, small
communities. Since autumn of 1994 we have been given a possibility to provide
an organized vacation also in winter in one building.
Our Foundation and Association is characterized by a
Christian mentality and it is in an ecumenical way open to every person or
organization who need help or who are offering help.
We welcome voluntary young people and accept any
material support. We can particularly make good use of kitchen and bedroom
equipment, toys, sporting goods and storybooks.
Financial and other reasons forced us to leave the
nice Zemplén region. In 2012 we spent the holiday in Cegléd, in a holiday-house
of the “Childrentown” Fót.
